Benjamin Brett, PhD

Dr. Benjamin Brett is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Medical College of Wisconsin in the Joint Clinical Neuropsychology and Brain Injury Research Program Fellowship. While obtaining his PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Memphis, Dr. Brett completed a number of externships/practicums in applied clinical neuropsychology and a clinical internship with a specialization in clinical neuropsychology at the Veterans Affairs Connecticut Health Care System. Dr. Brett has several peer-reviewed publications on the subject of long-term outcomes associated with prior contact sport participation and repetitive mTBI, with a particular focus factors that may moderate these relationships. As an NFL-LONG study team member, he will be looking to extend upon his previous work and contributing to the mission of the study, to improve the long-term neurological health of former NFL players, while enhancing the health and safety of current and future athletes at all competitive levels.

Candice P. Goerger, MS

Candice P. Goerger, MS

Candice currently serves as the Assistant Program Director for the Center for the Study of Retired Athletes and the Matthew Gfeller Sport-Related Traumatic Brain Injury Research Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Candice completed her Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training at Temple University and her Master’s degree in Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Candice has more than 10 years of experience managing and coordinating faculty research portfolios and is responsible for all financial and administrative day-to-day operations for both Centers.

Weili Lin, PhD

Weili Lin, PhD

Dr. Lin is the Director of Biomedical Research Imaging Center (BRIC) where the Imaging and Image Analysis Coordinate Center will be housed. In addition, the BRIC houses the Siemens Prisma MR scanner, the Siemens hybrid PET/MR scanner and the Cyclotron and Radiochemistry facility, which all will be used for the NFL-LONG study. Dr. Lin has extensive experience on neuroimaging approaches including both PET and MR. He will oversee all aspects of imaging acquisition, ensure imaging quality, and data coordination with MCW.

Caprice Roberts, MPH, CHES

Caprice Roberts, MPH, CHES

Caprice serves as the research coordinator for the NFL-LONG Study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Center for the Study of Retired Athletes (CSRA). Caprice completed her undergraduate degree in athletic training and master's in public health with a concentration in health behavior at East Carolina University. She also completed her Capstone project on “Athletic Trainers Perceptions to Barriers when Assessing and Managing Sport-Related Concussions." Caprice is responsible for coordinating the NFL-LONG Study and managing the day-to-day operations.
