Bone marrow failure, myelodysplastic syndrome, cancer genetics

Principal Investigator: Akiko Shimamura, MD, PhD

The Shimamura lab studies bone marrow failure, myelodysplastic syndromes, and genetic cancer predisposition with the goal of improving diagnosis, and developing better treatments.  We have identified new genes causing these disorders, elucidated molecular mechanisms causing these disorders and their complications, and expanded our understanding. of the broad clinical spectrum of these disorders. Our investigations span basic scientific mechanisms and clinical research.

We welcome inquiries from talented and motivated scientists and clinical researchers interested in learning more about opportunities in our lab.
