Our research

Pediatric chronic headache and COVID-19

We are supported by federal research funds to understand the factors that differentiate different forms of headache in pediatric cohorts. By using advanced neuroimaging and machine learning, we hope to improve diagnosis and identify novel targets for treatment.

Endometriosis

We are evaluating the centralized impact of endometriosis across women from menarche through menopause. Our focus is on understanding how prolonged pain from endometriosis can influence pain perception.

Phoenix initiative

This is a pilot initiative focused on understanding pain in female athletes. Our four pilot investigations focus on understanding:

  1. Pain behaviors and their relationship with nutrition and menstrual health
  2. The neurophysiological properties of pain perception
  3. Pelvic floor health
  4. Pregnancy and the role of physical activity on the mother and offspring

Dystonia

This is a pilot initiative focused on understanding how hyperkinetic movement disorders influence pain perception. We use a resting state and task-based (go / no-go) electroencephalography paradigm to understand the brain networks underlying pain and cognitive control.
