Research Overview

Dr. Nandivada is a pediatric general surgeon with a focus in congenital colorectal malformations and disease. She is interested in improving the care for children with Hirschsprung disease, who continue to suffer from enterocolitis and chronic constipation despite resection of the aganglionic segment of bowel and an uncomplicated pull-through procedure. Her research aims to identify abnormalities in the expression and/or function of tight junction proteins in children with Hirshsprung Disease and develop small molecule therapeutics that can maintain barrier function and reduce the risk of postoperative complications.

Research Background

Dr. Nandivada has a degree in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and began her research training with the Besmer lab in Developmental Biology. She then received her MD from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and was a William J. von Liebig Fellow of Vascular Surgery Research in the Furie Lab at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). She completed her general surgical training at BIDMC and her pediatric surgical and research training at Boston Children's Hospital (BCH). She is dual boarded in general and pediatric surgery and focuses within the Colorectal and Pelvic Malformation Center at BCH.
