Dr. Hamoda's primary research interest has been in utilizing advanced neuromiaging techniques such as Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI), Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and Arterial Spin Labeling for the study of youngsters who are at early risk for schizophrenia spectrum and disorders and ADHD. The need to understand, to learn and to apply imaging techniques to the study of these debilitating neuropsychiatric disorders in order to characterize and localize brain abnormalities, led to his pilot work in the Psychiatric Neuroimaging Laboratory and two current projects utilizing advanced imaging in the prodromal phase of schizophrenia as well as in ADHD.
Dr. Hamoda is also passionate about international child mental health and has provided consultation to the World Health Organization (WHO) to help map child, adolescent and maternal mental health initiatives in the Eastern Mediterranean Region and is currently developing a school mental health program for the region in collaboration with the WHO.
