Dr. Adil is active academically. In recent years, she has focused her research efforts to complement her clinical interest in pediatric rhinology. She published a feasibility study on pediatric nasal surgery, which was published recently in a high impact facial plastic surgery journal. She has also published two best practice rhinology articles and a recent meta-analysis of stenting following choanal atresia repair. These three articles were published in one of the most prominent otolaryngology journals (The Laryngoscope). Moving forward, she has compiled a large database of cystic fibrosis patients who have undergone sinus surgery, which will serve as the foundation for several retrospective and prospective studies.
She currently serves as an active member of both the education and research committees of the Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Enhancement. At the national and international level, Dr. Adil is a member of numerous otolaryngology societies and serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for several high impact journals. She has published 28 peer reviewed manuscripts and 16 reviews/book chapters. Her research has been presented nationally and internationally. Recently, her research and reviewer skills have been granted awards at the national level.
Research Background
Dr. Adil received her medical degree from University of Miami School of Medicine. She also received her Masters in Business Administration from University of Massachusetts Isenberg School of Business. She completed her residency in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at Pennsylvania State University and fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. She was invited to join the faculty following fellowship training.
Dr. Adil has a strong clinical interest in pediatric rhinology. In collaboration with BCH Allergy and Immunology colleagues, she developed and co-directs the multidisciplinary Sinonasal Disorders Clinic. This clinic allows patients to undergo a complete otolaryngology and allergy evaluation, allergy testing, and thorough nasal/nasopharyngeal endoscopy at one setting. She also developed a corresponding prospective clinical database for future research projects, inclusive of quality of life measures in pre and post surgical patients. As the only multidisciplinary pediatric sinonasal clinic in the region, she hopes to build an eventual Sinonasal Disorders Program with national and international aspirations.
She also has a strong interest in international health. In 2013, she travelled to Rwanda as part of the Department’s efforts to help rebuild the otolaryngology training program. In the spring of 2014, she was invited to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam where she spent a week in one of their public children’s hospital, providing several grand rounds educational lectures to the entire department. She also taught endoscopic airway and sinus skills to both residents and attendings. She hopes to return to both sites to continue educating trainees in these underserved areas.
Her long term clinical and research goals are to advance the field of pediatric rhinology, an emerging field with significant potential for improvement. Through her local-regional efforts in rhinology and international teaching efforts, she hopes to make lasting contributions to the health and well-being of children worldwide.
